Windows 7 To Break Backwards Compatibility, mistake or not?
Previous versions of Windows provided backwards compatibility with older versions of windows, making it easy for users to upgrades as their favorite programs would still work.
However,Windows 7 will not be binary compatible with older versions.By not being binary compatible with previous versions of Windows and being built from the ground up, will give Windows 7 significant performance improvements.but it will increase the upgrade pain for users who may find that some of their existing applications will no longer work and will need upgrading.
for example, many users said :”they had been beta testing W7 for six months. It did work well and fixe many speed problems I had with Vista but it does not work on older hardware very well. The problem is mostly lack of video support. Also, very little existing hardware hardware is supported. If you want to buy a new computer with W7 then it will be fine. Upgrading from Vista - carefully catalog your hardware and make certain there are drivers for W7 available. This should not be a problem. But, upgrading from XP I would not recommend. Although it can be done (use migsetup.exe in the W7 DVD Support\Migwiz directory) I have found a lot of hardware that is not and will not be supported”.
I think older XP platform applications are better supported in W7. W7 XP Mode is specifically
designed to tempt small businesses to move to Windows 7 by allowing a Windows XP mode of installation (a virtual Windows XP environment running under W7). Simply sticking with XP is a lot easier and cheaper.
It seems that Microsoft has finally forgotten their customers that aren’t well financed and can’t buy the bleeding edge to outfit their entire organization with the new hotness.
Also, just few people think that M$ is making a good choice. Backwards compatibility should be dropped. Also there should be no 32 bit windows anymore, all systems are 64 bit it’s a waste of time and degrades functionality trying to support old software.
So,will Microsoft lose the marketshare of backwards compatibility with windows 7? Windows 7 To Break Backwards Compatibility, mistake or not? what is your opinion?
